It's a world built on passion, but also pressure. Competition is fierce, opportunities are few, and stability can feel out of reach. Salaries are often low, job security is fragile, and the stakes always feel high - especially when you're supporting someone else's success.
At PALS, we've lived this world first-hand. We know what it's like to be on the business side - to give everything to the talent you represent, to push for doors that don't easily open, and to keep smiling when things behind the scenes are far from easy.
An often lonely job
For many Personal Assistants and Executive Assistants, that reality can feel even lonelier. You might be working from someone's home, on the road, or sitting in an office for one person - there's often no real team around you. You're the gatekeeper to your principal: the person who knows everything, but can't share anything because of confidentiality. It's an isolating job at times - and even when you love it, it can take its toll.
Yesterday, one of our candidates - a talented woman with huge experience in TV and talent - called us after a tough day. She said she never hears back from other recruiters despite applying for countless roles, and just needed someone to talk to. So we did what we always do: we picked up the phone. We talked about the job market and life's struggles; there were tears, and we listened. And even though we didn't have a role for her right now, she didn't feel completely alone by the end of that call.
More than a recruitment agency
That's what PALS is here for. Yes, we're a recruitment agency - but more than that, we're trying to build a community. A place where people working in entertainment - PAs, EAs, talent managers, agents, or anyone behind the curtain - can find a little understanding, empathy, and a voice at the other end of the phone when no one else picks up.
Mental health matters - in this industry, perhaps more than most. And whilst we're only two years old, we'll always make time to listen.
